<itunes:summary>The Sealtest show ran for just one season, and starred Dorothy Lamour. Today, Jack Benny is the comedy guest.

Dorothy introduces her guests, she typically had a dramatic actoor, and a comedian. Her opening brings the guests together for some casual chatter. In this case she talks about being in a film with Jack Benny. After a commercial, there's time for a song. Dorothy sings, Buttons and Bows.

George Murphey acts with Dorothy in a humorous short drama about doing Christmas shopping. We learn the big spender isn't who we are led to believe, but Dorothy has some decisions to make. Will ther be a happy Christmas for her?

Dorothy sings, Slow Boat to China. After the commercial she follows it up with, For You.

These days, Jack Benny has been trying his hand at directing. His first film, Lucky Stiff, featured Dorothy, and a stage is set up for a behind the scenes look at what went on in the prodjuction offices.

Bonus Track:
Jack Benny and Robert Taylor play a duet. Might Like a Rose.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>This is one of those shows where the title is about what is going to happen, not what actually happens. You know. Like someone like Jack Benny or Henny Youngman saying they are now going to play a song on their violin, then just getting to the point of almost touching bow to strings, then going on a string of jokes to interupt the playing that was never really going to happen anyway.

The show begins with a salute to Washington's birthday, As Gracie talks to George. Then the neighbors, Blanche and Harry enter the picture, topics range all over the place and include anything from old school days, to chasing girls. With nothing better to do, George decides to take Gracie to the horse track, since she's never been there before. Gracie arranges with Bill Goodwin for a ride, and before long, Harry and Blanche are invited as a way to improve the romance in their life.

With all the gang ready to go, romance still hangs in there as a topic of conversation, but the numbers of people going on this date keep increasing. Will someone need to stay home to make room in the car?
We never quite make it to the race track. Darn, I'll bet there could have been some good jokes there. Maybe another episode.

In the end, George and Harry make the sacrifice to give up their places so they can stay home and do what they each like most.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>The planet seemed to be an underdeveloped backwater with no life on it. Then a junkyard was spotted. The exploratory spaceship took a chance, landed, but now is plagued with engine trouble, and a case of amnesia among the technicians in the crew. Whatchya mean they forgot how to restart the engines? How could you forget how to do that? It's only the beginning of the wierd occurances that begin showing up in the rocket and it's crew.

Where are the people of Planet 9, and how did this junkyard get here? As the strange events unfold, it becomes a matter of sloppy human nature triumphing over applied technology to get the rocket off the ground. Also a matter of human superiority over any mere alien civilization.

While not without losses, the rocket and crew take off for the safety of outer space, and have lessons to chalk up. '</itunes:summary>

A lady piano teacher and a man who is a dog trainer tell Groucho about their professions.

<itunes:summary>Fred jokes with Jimmy Wallington about wierd occurances in the world of the radioairwaves in the past week. Texaco's News of the Week has a look at marriage and divorce. What was the cause of divorce in 1941?Well, at least the leading causes from the perspective of Fred Allen. Job situations, extended families, mutual frustrations, power struggles, and others. Kenny Baker sings, The Night We met.

Al Goodman shows off his new musical baton to Fred, which turns out to be a prank from Kenny in honor of April Fool's Day. Portland also seems to have been taken in. When Kenny arrives, Fred is hep to his jive. No harm done, until Fred falls prey to the joke in an unplanned way. Can Fred teach Kenny a lesson? Win Murray is back from last season to sing, A Twist of the Wrist.

The Texaco round table involves a press photographer for the New York News. A woman who is a dress designer for fashion models, and for the average woman alike. The question involves the fast paced rate of life, and the benefit of reading in digest form, or the complete stories and books. Kenny sings, A Wandering Minstrel I.

The Texaco Workshop Players present a murder mystery from One Long Pan. At a movie premiere, Charlie Chan is shot, and it's up to One Long Pan to investigate the scene and learn what happened. Actually it could also be Long Pan's big chance to take Charlie's place in films.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Working the homacide detail, a report of the death of a 72 year old man comes in. Joe Friday and partner, Frank Smith go to investigate the suspicious details surrounding the man's death. They talk to the man's neighbor, who is upset over the lack of police protection. She tells about two men who came and beat up old Mr Stone.

Mrs Stone confirms the story, and offers motive for the robbery and murder. In the mess that was made of the house, clues are found, and Friday offers voiceover to tell how he pursued this case. The trail leads back to the nosy neighbor, who knows probably more than she ought to, but a domestic dispute with the family's grown son, Herman is examined.

Through more voiceover, Joe Friday shares some trouble in the case, and has to take it in a new direction. Somebody has been lying in the stories told thus far, but who can it be? Join Joe as he sifts through the facts to get to the truths in the matter. A break in the case comes in, and the bad guys are nabbed.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>A character named George narates the action between Elliot and Cathy. Elliot plays Wally, a wallpaper hanger. Cathy plays the wife of the disgruntled man as he gripes over his job, and being pushed around by life in general. Wally wants to do something with his life, and rise above being an average man. I guess he's never heard of the concept that if you can't be happy with what you already have, you won't be happy with what you get.

Cathy seems to be content with her life, but Wally decides to become more independant, and break loose of the average life. What's Wally cooking up? Will he share his idea with his buddy George? Stepping out on faith can be a risky thing, and Wally has the outrageous idea of becoming the strongest man in the world.

Some hard lessons are learned about becoming a spectical in trying to be special. Failures come before successes. How will Wally handle his ordeal?</itunes:summary>

It's a nice change of pace for him, but Bill reminds him of the serious responsibility they have of guarding their shipment of gold. Bandits along the way are handled easily enough, but the real danger awaits Bill and Jingles at their destination.

The anticipated peaceful stay at the Sunset Ranch is brought to a stop when trouble for Jingles and Bill breaks out. When old AJ Morigan arrives at the ranch, things are looking bad when the crew try to push Bill and Jingles off the place. What kind of danger is the old guy in?

The listener is privvy to the scheme for the ranch forman to be the sole beneficiary of old AJ's will, but if signing it means a death warrant for the old man, his days are numbered. Bill hasn't been pushed aside so easily though, and has been watching things. It'll still take some tricky gunplay before the lid can be blown off of this dirty deal.</itunes:summary>

As Lum and Abner turn to playing checkers, the gents talk about radio advertisements that the product has. It's no wonder that it's always selling so well. Lum reads Abner a letter from a distant relative to tell about the happenings, and the intermixed shopping list in the margins. The orders and phone calls just never seem to stop for our heros. <itunes:summary>Johnny has to keep a couple from killing themselves to collect on their insurance policy. Arriving at the farm in New England, Johnny finds the ill kept place, and a sample of Northern hospitality. Though the weather outside is cold and wintery, the heat in the farm house is turned up, and the old couple seem as happy as can be, or at least in their own way.

What makes them want to commit suicide? They have their reasons for wanting to leave a legacy, which Johnny doesn't judge their idea, only the part about killing themselves. Something isn't sitting well with Johnny, and it isn't over the potential payout for his insurance company. There's something fishy about their story.

There's a bump in the night, a girl screams, and the insurance papers that need signing are gone. Who could be in the house besides Johnny and the old couple? With the blowing blizzard outside it shouldn't be as hard to figure out as it is. Secrets and skeletons come exploding out of closets. Dangerous dames with guns, and deadly snakes. Definitely a tangled mess of murder for our hero to unravel.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>On the nightclub scene in the big city, an odd character appears in the form of a man wearing the clothes of a Texas cowhand. The trusting man is taken in by a female crook, but when he falls in with Casey, the two set out to track down the con woman. The more juicy details they learn along the way, the more Casey wants to sink his teeth into Mary Belle Warren, and the big story that is laying under the surface.

For a woman's touch, Casey calls in the help of Ann Williams.

Before it's done, there's going to be car chases, missing persons to rescue, and some gangsters to rough up. Who is Mary Belle, or Lottie, or whoever she is? As Casey digs through the underworld, the truth emerges over who is innocent, and who is victimized.

In the Blue Note, Casey, and Ann tell Ethylbert all about the secrets of the racketeers.</itunes:summary>

Inspector Farraday didn't have enough to hold his gangsters on, and Larry seems to be in danger, especially when Blackie gets a thump on the head. Time to shift gears and follow a new plan. What can Blackie do that the cops can't?

Another fall guy is approached by the mob, but Blackie is ready for them this time. Listen to see how he manages to outsmart the gangsters, and deliver them over to inspector Farraday.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>It's a cold morning in the new French republic, and Marie Antoinette is to stand trial. Join CBS as they roll back the clock to take you there. Taken from actual reports and quotations of the times we have a look at the proceedings.

The prosecutor and court officials are interviewed over their tactics in the trial. Citezens of the newly won revolution nervously watch the trial, and share a few thoughts with the reporters. Elsewhere, a report of an attempt to rescue the condemned Marie is presented. Will it work?

Meanwhile, reporters take us to the palace where prisoners are held, and we learn some of the conditions there. CBS reporters try to examine reasons for some of the political prisoners being held there. Finally, a word with Marie herself is presented. She shares her personal losses and feelings about the circus surrounding her trial.

Has this been a fair trial? Is Marie guilty of any crimes? Or is she simply a victim of her circumstance, and the new freedoms of the people. If you ask me, there is certainly a lot of drama and emotions all through the procedings. Not from the radio production, but from the participants of the time. Maybe not a fair trial, but it appeased the emotions of the masses.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>In flashback, Don takes us back to a scene where Rochester sings as he cleans Jack's home. Then Jack takes the stage to speak to the gathered troops where they love him in St Joe. As is typical of entertaining World War 2 troops, there's plenty of local and topical humor, particularly the cattle transporting industry. Mary and Larry enter , Larry sings, I Love You Sweetheart of My Dreams.

Jack's fun in the cow town is dampened a little when mention of Fred Allen gives him a chance to take jabs at his old rival. Phil bursts on the scene, and is complemented on his appearance on the Fitch Bandwagon. . Jokes turn to another local historic figure, Jesse James.

The mayor of St Joseph makes an appearance, and bestows Jack with an honorary title. Jane Wyman, a native to the town, helps with the show and sets Jack straight on the prefered name of the city. Jack and Jane discuss love scenes and leading men. Rochester phones in with some trouble over Jack's dry cleaning. Phil plays the show out to some closing words from Jack to buy more war bonds.

Note: During the war era, there was still a lot of racism towards black people. Hotels and public facilities were highly segregated. There's a famous incident that happened in the stay in St Joseph, MO. The hotel was pleased to welcome Jack and his crew, all except Eddie Anderson. He was told he would have to stay elsewhere. It made Jack mad, and he refused to stay at the hotel if his entire cast couldn't stay there. Not wanting to lose his business, an instant change to the hotel's segregation policy was made, and Rochester could stay as well. They may love Jack in St Joe, but there may still have been some bigots there who were a little less friendly.

Phil is mentioned as appearing on the Fitch Bandwagon, a variety musical show. In just a couple years, and after the war, he and wife Alice would make appearances to do a sit com style show or two that would lead to their own series. They would at first be sponsored by Fitch shampoo, then later by Rexall, and then by Victor Records.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>From a record collection produced sometime in the early 1970's, containing a total of 6 disks, here's a few that feature Jack Benny as he presents a mix of his personal favorite moments from radio, and some hand picked selections from the producers and the stars themselves. If you're interested in finding out more on how to get this excellent collection for yourself, and listening to the other clips on it, visit my contact page, and drop me an email.

Jack introduces moments from the Bing Crosby program, Fred Allen, and Fibber McGee and Molly. He presents some of his favorite performers, and introduces today's television watcher to a world of imagination where you are in control, and the theater in your mind that blows away the best produced, high definition televisions on the market today. Jack recollects catch phrases of a bygone time that have come into the English language, and a few still linger, or can be heard from time to time. Listeners will definitely recognize a few voices of characters who got their start in radio, but have shown up in cartoons through the years, but with different character names. I'm thinking in particular of Senator Claghorn, and Wallace Wimple.

In a final look at Fred Allen and Jack Benny, we get a chance to put our theater of the mind to work as we imagine the imagery that takes place on stage... or do we have to try all that hard? I mean, the thing that happens on stage didn't really happen. Or did it?

Bonus Track:
Hey, the whole show was a nonstop series of bonus tracks. Listen and enjoy.</itunes:summary>

Later, Kitty tells Matt about a few rough types who just rode into town. Are they gunmen, or just saddle bums?

There's trouble when a fire breaks out, and the work on the hotel is gone. Matt doesn't have any solid evidence, but the newcomers to town are suspected. Days go by, and Matt patrols Dodge City, when he gets word of a possible shady deal with selling cattle.

Matt takes Enoch, the rancher turned hotel man, to the indian reservation. What's the connection? Matt knows, but Enoch doesn't like or turst Matt since he thinks the Marshall hasn't arrested them who burnt his hotel down. Matt is about to get his proof, and make amends with Enoch.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Phil shows the girls the sights and historical landmarks of New York. Maybe Alice should be the tour guide since she was born and raised in New York. Not to mention that Phil gets the chance to show off his education, or lack of it, as he passes his misinformation along. Phil and Alice find themselves at a press conference full of all the big names in news reporters. They're more interested in Alice, but try to send Phil out on a wild goose chase. Alice sings, Bye Bye Baby.

The jealous Phil gets Frankie and Julius to help him put together a publicity stunt so he can get his picture in the newspaper. Will Phil go as far as to jump off the Brooklyn bridge? Not on purpose. The plan was to push a dummy off, but somehow you know that things don't go as planned. Phil sings, The Old Master Painter.

The stage is set, and the players in place, so tune in to see how things get messed up for Phil. Comical, but messed up. Does he make the newspapers or not?</itunes:summary>

It seems that Mr Boynton could learn a few lessons from Walter Denton, but Walter has other than romantic reasons for dating Harriot Conklin.

Mr LaBlanc, the French teacher enters the picture, but Connie doesn't want to get romantic with him. Still, he has some pointers on how she might get in closer with Boynton.

With Boyntons preoccupation with frogs, Connie acts on the advice from Mr lablanc and has Walter buy her a female frog from the pet shop. Will MacDugals spirits pick up with a girl frog around? With his animal worries over, will Boynton follow suit, and let nature take its course between him and Connie?

Mix ups make for comic situations when Connie's frog isn't a girl. Can she save the day and end up with a romantic date?</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Our Jack Benny month continues with an unexpected salute from his arch rival, Fred Allen. In 1941, Fred dedicated his entire show to salute Jack Benny's tenth year on the radio. Though Jack would have made his first appearance on the air waves in 1931, it was as a guest appearance on the Ed Sullivan show. Jack wouldn't have his own show until the following year.

To the surprise of his cast members, Fred startes right off with featuring Jack Benny in his News of the Week spot. Fred looks at a few current events in the year Jack hit radio. Who was president? Who was governor? What were the top sports teams and news events? What other notable events are remembered for 1931? The Empire State building, cellophane, and zippers are all mentioned. Kenny Baker sings, Because of You.

Al Goodman plays a musical interlude to transition to the next segment of the show. Portland and Kenny join Fred in his salute, and are ready to do their part. <itunes:summary>There's another fun packed show in store today. The Pretenders read a fan letter, and respond to it.

Uncle Bill has his cohost Cybil lead the kids to storyland as they beat their tom toms in a parade down the Navajo Trail.

The story of a king and queen is told. They are looking for the ideal person to have their son marry. The young prince tries on his own to find a bride, but turns out to be clumsy at it. When he does find someone he likes, he takes her home to meet mom and dad.

The prince has more run ins with potential maidens for his wedding, but which is the right one? How can he tell? The queen has an idea, and a pea is placed under not only 1, but 20 matresses. After a night's rest, the true princess is finally identified.

Stay tuned for a short bonus story afterward. See what can be learned from a fig tree, a frog, and a garden.</itunes:summary>

There's going to be lots of clean up work to do. Abner and Cedric need Lum to explain what amonia is, and what it's used for. What other chemicals are present on the farm? What other goodies are hiding in the outbuildings? What's a Saxon anyway? I think it's like a Maxwell, only different. Whatever it is, they now have one.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Those crazy people are back. George Burns and Gracie Allen are joined by the Smoothies, Artie Shaw and his orchestra, and announcer Bud Easton.

Previously George had been on trial, but actually won his case. Today he jokes with Bud and Gracie about his success. George gets picked on by the cast, including his unruly guitarist Senor Lee. The Smoothies sing, I'll Never Smile Again.

All George has to do is pay a small $25 court fee for his legal troubles. Gracie is sure she knows someone who can take care of that for him, and starts making phone calls. The calls to distant places soon racks up more in expenses than George's original legal bill. Don't worry, it escalates, then explodes to outrageous amounts. Along the way jokes about spelling, finances, horses, and even hula dancers make appearances. George tries to appease his disgruntled Harvard educated sound man, then Artie Shaw plays, Begin the Beguine.

Gracie keeps making her phone calls, but the delays cause George to miss his deadline in paying his court fees. Poor George, he just can't win, and if anything can happen, it'll happen to him.

Note: Elliot Lewis was the Harvard sound man. In real life he had only recently graduated from college. Not from Harvard though. He had a business degree, and this is among his first jobs in radio. he would go on to have a long and illustrious career in just about all aspects of producing a radio show. He and his wife Cathy showcased their tallents with the drama series, On Stage. Elliot was Frank Remley on the Phil Haris show, and Nero Wolf's assistant Archie, among many other roles. He would serve in World War 2 to produce things for the military, and did all maner of production and directing in radio shows. I guess it's safe to say that his career of slamming doors as the sound man didn't leave him sitting still.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Poor quality. Audio starts out passable, but fades some.

Jack has returned from his Chicago trip he mentioned in his previous show. He tells the cast about his birthday celebration. Mary had claimed in the previous show that she was going to Florida, and today she seems to still be gone since she has sent a replacement to stand in for her.

After the snipped band number, Jack responds to a fan letter. The play begins as Jack introduces the Blue Moon Murder. Detective O'Benny is on the case to solve the murder. Racing to the crime scene, O'Benny isn't immune to getting pulled over for speeding.

On the scene of the crime, O'Beeny tries to find his killer in the... Bathroom? He doesn't stop there, and makes the rounds to the rest of the crazy characters.

Note: The substitute actress standing in for Mary is Jack's former girlfriend, and friend of Gracie Allen. Mary Kelley would beco e part of the show through the late 1930's when she left to be a regular on the Burns and Allen show. The story goes that Mary Livingston may have been a little jealous of the old girlfriend, and had something to do with her leaving the show. If this is true, I don't know why Mary Kelley lasted for the 5 or so years she did on Jack's show.</itunes:summary>

Howell Withers sings, Somebody's Lying. Bud and Lou talk about dating woes, then the Sam Shovel mystery begins, Murder in the Butcher Shop. <itunes:summary>Doc Hall might rather be playing a friendly game of chess with his lovely wife, but in the course of the duties of his office he has to attend a luncheon instead. At the Hall home, we find Vicky dealing with a Chinese student with a problem. The girl is afraid that she will be passed over despite her good grades, and someone with higher popularity will take the honor. Is there a discrimination problem on campus? What will Doc Hall do when he learns of the problem of Margret, the Chinese student? On top of the matter, Doc Hall is tasked with taking over the campus chapel service in the absence of the Chaplain.

A sentimental journey is in store to distract Doc Hall from his worries. He even takes a brief part in a long distant chess game. Flashback to happier times on the beach, andmemories of the Halls early dating life. The reverie is broken, and the big moment comes for the speech. How will the chapel service work out? Has Margeret left school in embarrassment?

National Brotherhood Week is to begin this week, as directed by the president, and Doc Hall's speech addresses the topic of tollerance. Better yet, understanding, is a more fitting word.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Audio is poor, but worth a listen to hear a few moments of Jac's early career on radio. I tweaked the audio to cut out some of the noise, but it's still staticky.

Mary opens with a poem that carried over from the previous, non-existent episode, one about Winter. Jack brings us news of the week from the Global Traveller. Items come from current events from France, New York, and more, and include Hollywood celebrities, strikes, Groundhogs Day, and others. Frank Parker plays, but his song is snipped from the recording.

The cast talk about where they might take a vacation to escape the wintery weather. Jack mentions travelling to Chicago. He doesn't say, but it could be to celebrate his upcoming birthday with family there. The play is Jack's version of Little Women, called Miniature Women. Frank has another musical number snipped, then the feature begins. The spoof kicks off with Jack joking on the side to the audience. Adding a little irreverence to the period piece. The audio gets particularly staticky towards the end of the puns and topical jokes. You'll know it's over when the jokes take on a sponsor flavor.

Note: Jack mentions the story from Louisa May Alcot was 50 years old at this time. Long enough to be a well loved classic. Think of what stories, TV shows, or movies that are roughly 50 years in our past. That's the same perspective Jack's audience had with this story.

Despite the poor audio, this is one of my favorites. Maybe not in my top ten, but deserving an honorable mention.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Marlowe is out to locate a girl, but before he can, he finds death and the devil. Mr Drum is looking for his missing sister, and hires Philip to find her. Details about Julia, her appearance, and what might have made her disappear are discussed.

Philip is descriptive in voiceover, as he follows his trail that leads through gamblers, horses, and rich ladies. Who is Whittaker, and what does an English style pub have to do with the missing Julia?

With a body on his hands, Philip phones the cops to handle the murder, and returns to solving the mystery that he continues pursuing. The bodies pile up, but there's still loose ends for Marlowe to get tied up before he can put the finger on the killer, and cut through the lies. Audio stops just short of the full explainations of the crime. Oopsie, hate it when that happens.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Vic and Russel are stranded outside on a chilly night, as Sade entertains her thimble club Ladies indoors. They make small talk about the ladies indoors and imitate them. Uncle Fletcher joins them to talk about their woman troubles.

One by one, various ladies come to the window, and the guys feel obligated to say hi, and greet them. The guys talk about the predictable behavior of the ladies as they get ready to filter out of the house, and go home.

Trivia:
This episode provides the names of several women who are in the Thimble Club that up to now, we never knew were members. Here's a list of "new" Thimble Club members:

Mis' Morris, Mis' Donahue, Mis' Johnson, Mis' Craig, Mis' O'Donnell, Mis' Chlorine, Mis' Garrison and Mis' Kester. By my count there are 22 members with one other possible member mentioned.

For a complete list of the women in the Thimble Club, be sure to check the Thimble Club page.

Several women's name make their surviving episode debuts in this episode:

Mis' Morris, Mis' Craig, Mis' O'Donnell, Mis' Chlorine and Mis' Garrison.

Vic used the following nicknames for Russell in this episode: Dorothy, Dr. Sleech and Mister Woosh.
Uncle Fletcher is short on ridiculous stories in this episode, although he does mention the fact that Mis' Cryder and Mis' Johnson both have named their olderst sons, "William" and that Roy Dejectedly was confused as to where Des Moines, Iowa was.
Russell's friend, Oyster Cracker, has a cousin named "Lomabard."
Added the Johnson house to the map; it was missed from an earlier episode.

<itunes:summary>Normally done in a variety format stage show, today Command Performance features a star studded cast to perform a short musical drama. Based on that all time favorite detective, Dick Tracey.

The musical, comedy, spoof of our hero is chock full of romance, narrow escapes, and plenty of fun adventure. Listen in for the twisted lyrics to popular songs of the times that feature: Frank Sinatra is Shaky.

Bing Crosby as Dick Tracey. Dinah Shore as Tess Trueheart. Jerry Colona as the police chief (who's side is he on anyway?). Bob Hope is Flattop. Jimmy Durante is the Mole. Judy Garland is Snowflake. You'll also hear the Andrews Sisters, Cass Daily, and Frank Morgan.

It runs a little longer than the typical Command Performance episode, but the fun is well worth it. Tune in to see if Dick ever goes through with his wedding to Tess.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>In Jack's home, Don visits Rochester and we learn about Jack taking Mary out to the movies. They have jjust seen It's a Wonderful Life, but Jack finds it hard to believe that an angel could make it so a person was never born. What would life be like for the cast if Jack were never born?

At home, Jack finds a stranger in his house. It's Victor Moore, the angel from the film Jack just went to see. The angel is on a mission and Jack learns that he has no butler, but that's only the beginning.

He learns that Mary still works for the May Company, Dennis Day works for Fred Allen, and a voice impersonater standing in for Fred is pleased to meet Jack because there has never been a feud between them. Don and the Sportsmen run a tobacco plantation. (Hey, they had to work in the sponsor in here somewhere). Phil Harris still works in his nightclub. Isn't there anybody who can help Jack prove that he was really born?

In the end, Jack gets his life back, and for better or worse, the cast are restored to their place in life with him.

Bonus Track:
Jack
Benny. 1937. Jack complains about Fred Allen and defends his violin playing.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>George heads to the record company to pitch another song he wrote. Don't worry, he doesn't sing. I think it's just to squeeze in a couple jokes that couldn't be fit in on the last episode when George did sing. At the Burns home, we get a glimpse of Gracie's domestic charm. A script is delivered and George is an easy sell, once the theatrical agent learns what button to push. Now it's up to George to convince Gracie that she's right for the part. Is she up for playing the part of Dulcie, the ditsy dame?

Since George and Gracie are busy learning their parts, the neighbors talk about the crazy life of George and Gracie as vaudeville actors. Bill Goodwin enters to brag about his skills with the ladies, and of course plug the sponsor. Gracie talks about script changes that she thinks will work, if only George will go for it.

Note: In the show, Gracie is poked fun of concerning her domestic skills. In real life, she is said to be a very good housekeeper, and a charming hostess. There's also a disagreement on who fell in love first in the famous couple's love affair. George fell in love right away with Gracie, but she was too star struck by others on the vaudeville circuit. Eventually he won her over, and they became inseparable.

<itunes:summary>Jimmy wallington teases Fred about being physically fit. The News of the week features Springtime. in New York. The parade of characters get poetic as topics also include views from street workers, the upper crust, and city politicians. Kenny Baker sings, Rondezvoux in Rio.

Portland joins Fred to joke about Kenny changing his name. It's Kenny's effort to add class to his act, as he tests the operetic waters. will this be his big chanced to get his own show, and be the center of attention? Kenny even gets a good deal on a new suit for his new image. The Martins sin, O Dear what Can the Matter Be.

Al Goodman transitions with a song, Rhythm in Red white and Blue. The Round Table segment includes: a soup distributor from Flatbush, a woman from Jackson Heights, and a boy radio and stage actor, from New York. The question is deals with child discipline and is, Should children be spanked Kenny sings, Celia, a song from the Merry widow.

The Texaco workshop Players present a play, the wedlock Society. The spoof play begins right after a spoof commercial. Fred interviews married couples in a game show format. Spoof prizes are given after each couple share moments from their wedded bliss.

Note: in Jimmy's teasing Fred about his physical condition, Jimmy is said to be 210 lbs, and stands 6ft, 2in. Fred implies that Jimmy is fat, but when I was at peak of condition in my much younger days, I was 210, 6ft 5in, and I can garantee there was little to no fat. I suppose it depends on the person though. These days I weigh in considerably heavier. Oh well, all things come to pass.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Previously, Jimmy has been locked in a closet. Tumbleweed is again captured by the gangster. Then on top of that the Egyptian kidnaps him as well. And just where is Superman?

Meanwhile, clark is at the Daily Planet, and verifies the identity of Sidney Ryecroft, the Brittish explorer is the woman. There had been some dispute early on whether she was the explorer, or another man who was also posing as a magician.

Back in Clark's apartment, Tumbleweed is about to be taken away to points unknown, when the lights go out and a mysterious whispering voice is heard.

PS: It seems to be an occasional ploy in old radio dramas to use a creepy whispering voice to stir up mystery, or spookiness. I find very annoying, hard to follow, and anything but mysterious, spooky, or creepy. Even though the whisper is meant to disguise the voice, I think I already know who the person is. I'll also add at this point that this particular story line is not one of my more favorite ones. I would place it near the bottom of my list of good stories.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>For the first time in Jack's broadcast history, he does his show from outside the United States. He jokes about a tunnel where he has a sign set up to charge admission. Wait for it, there's more running gags to come about it. He salutes the Canadian troops in the audience, and gets a little tribute in return. Mary and Don talk about the sights in the towns they've visited. Dennis Day puts in his observation about the monetary exchange rate, then he sings. So Nice to Come Home To.

The cast get around to joking about it being Jack's birthday. Can they pin Jack down on his age? Since Phil can't make it, Alan MacKiver is the guest bandleader. Jack's recent movies get a plug, his recently made Washington Slept Here, and his upcoming one, The Meanest Man in the World. The band plays, Canadian Capers.

Mary dedicates a poem to the Canadian troops. Jack tries to introduce his play for the night but keeps being interupted. Rochester reports the latest happenings from Jack's tunnel. The play never quite makes an appearance, but I don't think it was supposed to.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Don and the gang all open with Birthday wishes for jack. They try to get Jack to confess his real age. Mary even has a special poem for him. Phil plays, Riding High.

In previous episodes, Jack has begun his rivalry with Fred Allen, and he was to respond to the challenge to play the Bee. His violin had been abducted, and today is still missing, but a substitute almost shows up. While waiting for word on the missing violin, Andy Devine shows up with birthday greetings, and a gift. Kenny sings, Carry Me Back to the Lone Prairie.

Telegrams trickle in from various sources including Fred Allen, and Jack's dad. Ben Birney, the Old Maestro, pops in for a visit, and bearing gifts. The Old Maestro talks with the cast, and Phil claims to be the Young Maestro. Phil plays, Goona Goo.

The topic turns to the whole gang taking pot shots at Fred Allen, and the remarks he made on his latest show. Jack presents a spoof look at the highlights of Fred Allen's life. It's short, but funny. Will Jack be any closer to playing the Bee?

Note: Today is Jack's birthday. He manages to avoid telling his age, though his running joke in later years will be that he is 39, he is 43 today.

Ben Birney was a popular band leader of the day, and in his own way instrumental in giving Jack his stage name. When Jack was in Vaudeville, he went by various names, but settled on Ben K Bennie for a time. The Old Maestro thought it sounded too much like his own name, and the two are said to look something alike, and he was going to sue Jack if he didn't pick another stage name. So Ben K Benny became Jack, and the rest is history.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>In the living room of the Gook home, we find Vic napping, Sade looking through the newspaper, and Russel reading a passage of a 3rd Lt Stanley book. Russel is a little perturbed to learn that nobody has been listening to his oration. Vic takes the floor to tell about the first and only woman to be admitted into the lodge. He gets a feel for Russels rejection when Sade is less than enthusiastic over the news.

Trivia:
For the first time in the surviving series, we hear Russell read from a Third Lieutenant Stanley book. This one is about counterfeiting snake charmers.
Vic once refers to Russell as "Helen."
E. W. Smith lives in Emporia, Kansas. He's a member of the Sacred Stars of the Milky Way. In the past, he has had a bad habit of stealing horses. (Pom Pom Cordova though, was made an honoroy lodge member because she helped him break the horse-thieving habit.)
Pom Pom Cordova (also originally from Emporia, Kansas) now lives in Belmont Beach in the Bahama Islands.) She is one of the very, very few women to ever become an honorary lodge member. She's in town and staying as the houseguest of Lolita di Lorenzi. This is the first time Mis' Cordova is mentioned in the surviving series.
The Gooks pronounce Bahama as: [buh-hay-muh.]
Doctor Keevy's dentist office was once again used as a meeting place, this time for Vic and his friends. I added Doctor Keevy's office to the map.
Two women were mentioned for the first time but nothing else but a mention: Lena Murphy and Opal McSlunk.
